WEST SIDE CUBS

Alumni Association

Honoring a Legacy. Inspiring the Future.

For nearly seven decades, the West Side Cubs (WSC) have represented far more than youth football. Since 1957, the Cubs have been a symbol of opportunity, perseverance, discipline, and community on Detroit's west side. Generations of young athletes have stepped onto the historic football field at the corner of Boston Boulevard and Petoskey Avenue, learning lessons that extended far beyond the game.

The West Side Cubs were founded during a time when many Black children were denied the opportunity to participate on predominantly white youth football teams. Rather than allowing discrimination to define their future, determined community leaders came together to create an organization where every child could compete, build confidence, develop character, and pursue their dreams.

What began as a neighborhood football program soon grew into one of Detroit's most respected and successful youth football organizations. Through dedicated coaches, supportive families, talented athletes, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, the West Side Cubs created opportunities that changed lives and shaped generations.

The impact of the Cubs can be seen far beyond the football field. Former Cubs have earned all-city and all-state honors, received college scholarships, and continued their athletic careers at universities across the nation. Some went on to play professional football, while countless others became successful entrepreneurs, educators, public servants, military veterans, first responders, coaches, mentors, and community leaders.

The Cubs helped shape boys and girls into people who would go on to lead, serve, teach, build, protect, and inspire. Wherever life has taken them, they carry with them the lessons learned as a West Side Cub—and they remain forever connected by a common bond: the West Side Cubs family.

The West Side Cubs Alumni Association (WSCAA) was established to preserve this remarkable legacy while ensuring that future generations continue to benefit from the same opportunities that have transformed countless lives. We honor those who came before us, celebrate the accomplishments of Cubs throughout the years, and work to ensure that the opportunity, values, and spirit of the West Side Cubs continue for generations to come.

We Serve God. We Hit the Books. We Play Ball.
